I'm Cassondra Sells, owner of Sells Insurance in Arvada. I'm an independent broker, so my help is free to you. The insurance companies pay me, not you. I shop several carriers for every rider and bring the options back side by side. This post covers what coverage riders should understand. There's no pricing here, because every rider and bike quotes differently.
What Colorado requires
Colorado requires motorcycle riders to carry liability insurance. I'll make sure your policy meets the state minimum and talk through whether the minimum is really enough for you.
Coverages to ask about
- Liability. Covers injuries and damage you cause to others.
- Uninsured/underinsured motorist. Protects you when the other driver can't pay. It matters even more on a bike.
- Collision. Covers damage to your bike in a crash.
- Comprehensive. Covers theft, vandalism, fire and Front Range hail.
- Custom parts and equipment. Aftermarket exhaust, seats, chrome or bags may need added coverage.
- Roadside assistance and trip interruption. Useful for longer mountain rides.
- Agreed value. Worth asking about for classic or custom bikes.
Seasonal riding
Lots of Colorado riders park the bike for winter. Some carriers offer ways to keep comprehensive coverage in the off-season.
Why use a broker for motorcycle insurance?
- Free to you. Carriers pay the broker's commission.
- Several carriers, one conversation. Carriers treat bikes, riders and custom parts differently, so comparing several matters.
- Coverage advice, not just a price. We'll match limits to what you need to protect.
